Anti-Stigma Rocks

“A Mental Health Awareness Project”

Idaho youth created project

For all of those who joined us for our afternoon of fun

at our youth driven mental health awareness project:

Anti-Stigma Rocks, we would like you offer you a

few photos from our event.

Our event provided participants a chance to

share their thoughts while learning more about

mental health stigma and how they could

help the Federation make a difference.

Participants had the opportunity to decorate

a rock with thoughts, feelings and descriptions

that came to mind when they heard the phrase

“Mental Health”.

Words That Hurt. Words That Heal.

Mental illness is a disease affecting thousands of Idaho teens. Unfortunately, most will never reach out for help because they are afraid of being labeled. Discrimination is a terrible thing. But it’s especially bad when it prevents someone from getting the help they need. So, always think before you speak. And when you can, make your words count for something positive.

And if you want to know what it’s like from the inside:

Read Words that hurt. Words that heal. Prose and poetry written by Idaho teens living with a mental illness or behavioral problem.

Now available in your
school library.

You can help end the discrimination and bias associated with mental illness:

  • Learn about mental illness — education is the best defense against ignorance
  • Look for opportunities to discuss the subject — mental illness, stigma, and discrimination are great topics for discussion in science, health, or speech classes
  • Reach out to those who need support — a kind word can make all the difference
  • Stand up for what’s right — your actions, right or wrong, will influence friends and acquaintances
